Requirements:
Eligibility for this office is limited t people 35 years of age or older, who are natural-born citizens, and who have been residents of this country for at least 14 years.
Term of Office:
Four year term with a limit of two terms.
Candidates are nominated at national party conventions and their names are on the voting ballots.
Votes cast for a presidential candidate determine the winning party's candidates for the Electoral College. The Electoral College is made up of state electors, one for each senator and each representative. The electors with the most votes will vote for their party's presidential candidate. The candidate gaining the most electoral votes is elected president of the United States, and is inaugurated into office on January 20 of the following year.
Salary:
$200,000 per year, plus $50,000 per year for related expenses.
Duties:
The president is the nation's chief executive and is commander-in-chief of the federal armed forces and the state militia.
The
U.S. Constitution
empowers the president to make treaties, appoint federal judges, and appoint and remove ambassadors and all other officers of the United States. By statute, the president is given many other specific responsibilities and powers.

US Constitution states that "no person...ineligible to the office of president shall be eligible to that of vice president of the United States."
Term of Office:
Four year term with a limit of two terms.
Candidates for vice president are chosen at the same conventions that the presidential candidates are chosen. The vice president elected in the same manner as the president and takes office at the same time as the president.
Salary:
$171,000 per year plus $10,000 per year for related expenses.
Duties:
The vice president assumes the powers of the presidency in the event of the president's death, resignation, or inability to function in the office. The vice president participates in Cabinet meetings, is president of the US Senate, is chairman of the National Aeronautics and Space Council, and serves the president in any other capacity that is or may be required.
Requirements:
The
US Constitution states that a person must be at least 25 years of age, a US citizen for at least seven years, and a current resident of the state that he or she is representing.

Two year term with no limit on successive terms. The Libertarian Party candidates for the US House of Representatives are nominated at the Libertarian Party of Indiana's State Convention. The Democrat and Republican candidates are chosen in primary elections. Indiana will have 9 Representatives starting in the year 2002.

Duties:
As a member of the US Congress, each representative drafts bills that are introduced and votes to enact federal laws on many subjects. Some of the bills drafted and voted on deal with crime, national budgets, social security, foreign relations, individual liberty, natural resources, agriculture, military, labor, business, and many other important issues. The
US Constitution states that all bills to raise revenue (taxes) are to originate in the House of Representatives.
There are 435 seats in the US House of Representatives and they are apportioned among the states according the population, based on each 10 year census, and each state will have at least one representative. Indiana was reapportioned from 11 House seats to 10 after the 1980 census and from 10 seats to 9 after the 2000 census, due to the population decline in Indiana relative to other states.
Requirements:
Eligibility for this office is limited to people who are at least 30 years of age and who have been US citizens and residents of Indiana for at least the past five years.
Term of Office:
Four year term and may not serve more than eight years in any 12 year period. The Libertarian candidate is nominated at the Libertarian Party of Indiana State Convention. The Democrat and Republican candidates are nominated in primary elections. Independent candidates may run by gaining a number of valid signatures equal to the requirements set by the current elected state officials.
Salary:
$95,000 per year plus $12,000 per year for related expenses.
Duties:
The Governor is the state's chief executive. Like the president, the governor is empowered to appoint and remove personnel in administrative departments, grant reprieves and pardons, convene the legislature in special session, veto legislation, serve as chairman of various boards and activities, and be the honorary head of a political party.

$76,000 per year plus $12,000 per year for serving as president of the Indiana Senate.
Duties:
The lieutenant governor assumes the powers and the duties of the governor in the event of the governors death, resignation, or inability to function in the office. The Lieutenant governor presides over the Indiana Senate, is commissioner of agriculture, is executive director of the Department of Commerce, and holds other duties relating to administrative and legislative functions.
Requirements:
Eligibility for this office is limited to people who are licensed to practice law in, and are citizens of, Indiana.
Term of Office:
Four years but may not serve more that eight years in any 12 year period. Candidates are chosen in party state conventions and take office on December 1, following the election in November.
Salary:
$79,400 per year.
Duties:
The attorney general represents the state of Indiana in every lawsuit in which the state has an interest, including state courts and US courts. However, the attorney general is not an enforcement officer and thus does not ordinarily prosecute offenders. In criminal cases, this officer's responsibility is generally limited to handling of appeals.
As a legal advisor for other state officers and departments, the attorney general prepares interpretations or official opinions on how certain laws are to be applied. This officer also supervises the state's consumer protection agency. In 1995, the attorney general's staff included 93 lawyers, as well as law clerks, investigators, and field auditors.

Duties:
The superintendent of public instruction and the State Board of Education are responsible for overall supervision and state educational standards. Their responsibilities include setting standards for training of teachers, prescribing course of study, approving textbooks, and appropriating of state funds for local school support.

Eligibility for this office is limited to people at least 25 years old, who are US citizens at the time of the election, been a resident of Indiana for at least two years prior to the election, and an inhabitant of the district to be represented.

Four years. 25 senate candidates from each party of Libertarian, Republican, and Democrat are chosen in the spring party primaries or by choice of the county chairman. Independent or minor party candidates can get on the ballot through the petition process.

If serving full-time, the prosecuting attorney is paid an annual base salary of $85,000. If serving only part-time, the salary is equal to 60% of the base salary.
